Child Protection

Eliminating Child Labor and Safeguarding Rights

About

Somero-Uganda

Uganda’s target population is children exploited in labor, sexually exploited young women, those at risks as well as their Male Counterparts. We operate within the slum and semi-urban areas. We define children as below the age of 18 years. This age is very crucial for the development of children for their wellbeing.

We define young women as females from 10-24 years that is too vulnerable and need a lot of guidance in decision making. We define male counterparts as any male who is significant in the wellbeing of the targeted children and young women.

Advocacy & Policy Change

SOCIAL BEHAVIOURIAL CHANGE SESSION

Advocacy-driven systemic change has led to groundbreaking progress in protecting Uganda’s children. Through collaboration with government agencies, community leaders, and global partners, child labor budgets in Busia District surged by 150%—from UGX 2 million to UGX 5 million—enforcing anti-exploitation measures and rehabilitation programs. Landmark Child Protection Ordinances were also gazetted, cementing legal safeguards to hold perpetrators accountable and prioritize children’s rights. These strides ensure long-term protections, empowering communities to eradicate child labor and build safer futures.

Rooted in empowerment and equity, our programs deliver life-changing solutions across education, health, livelihood development, and child protection. From scholarships for vulnerable children to vocational training for youth and advocacy against exploitation, we’ve impacted over 10,000 lives annually.

Empowering Vulnerable Children and Young Women

Who We Serve:

Somero Uganda empowers children (0–17) at risk of exploitation—including child labor, trafficking, early marriage, and abuse—through education, health services, safe shelters, and child-led advocacy. We strengthen systems to protect their rights and ensure safe, nurturing environments for growth.
We also support adolescent girls, young women, and male counterparts (15–25) facing marginalization, gender-based violence, or economic hardship. Through livelihood training, SRHR education, mentorship, and safe spaces, we foster resilience, independence, and community leadership.
