The Nyumba Kumi project focused on ensuring continuity of education for primary school children in Busia District during and after COVID-19 school closures. Drawing from the Nyumba Kumi model, a neighborhood-based approach, the project mobilized small community groups of households to support children’s education. Parents, caseworkers, and local government officials were engaged to strengthen child protection systems and promote safe learning environments.
The project also introduced community libraries to provide access to educational resources and vocational training for parents, ensuring sustainable household income to support children's education
